The Death Cold is coming to an END!!!

Well the last 2 weeks have been pretty rough on me. I've had the infamous Death Cold. It was really hard cuz I couldn't really take any time off work due to being on contract, so I had to just tuff it out. There were a few nights that I got home and I took my temperature and found out that I was sitting at around 102 degrees. I also spent a small fortune on various cold/flu products.

But I wake up this morning and I feel GREAT! I think it is finially gone. I still have the odd cough and have to blow my nose on occasion but I can handle that. At one point I killed an entire box of kleenex in about 2 days. I think I lost about 5 pounds throughout the time as well. I had no appetite and whenever I did eat anything it tasted like chalk. The last few days have been a lot better and I'm gaining back that weight and can taste food again.

I hope nobody else gets the death cold this year. It almost killed me this time.

Oops, I did it again

Posted by Kate

I saw on People magazine this week that Britney Spears is pregnant. This put me in a grumpy mood for a half hour. Really, I don't think that woman has any business having a baby. It just seems like another publicity stunt. Sure, she's 23 and far more grown up than I am, having been a celebrity since she was 15. But like I said, she's been a celebrity since she was 15. How can she possibly have any common sense to raise a child? Never mind asking how that child can possibly grow up to be a normally adjusted person. Oh well, I'm sure there will be lots of hired help around to change the diapers and feed the baby in the middle of the night. I hope someone tells her that pregnancy takes a toll on your breasts whether you breast feed or not! I wonder if you can get maternity benefits if you're already a millionaire. Ah, I'm cynical. Maybe she will be a good parent. Lesser women than she have done it.

My future's so bright... Posted by Hello

If people in town didn't think he was cute enough, now he's got shades! I never thought he would keep them on, but he wore them for about an hour today. He must have realized that it keeps the dreaded sun out of his eyes. Now we just have to work on the hat-wearing skills. Posted by Hello

Working Mom

Posted by Kate

I have signed my contract for working at the school next year. I was guaranteed to have my job back, teaching grade 3 and 4, but I told Garry, my principal, that I would prefer to work part time. It takes absolutely all my energy to teach all day and plan for the next day. I didn't think I would be able to do that and properly take care of my family. So I will be working 50%. Part of the day I will teach gr.3-4 and part of the day I will be doing resource, working with kids who need extra help. I'm going to teach every day, from 11:00 to 2:30, plus whatever time I need for planning. This is so great for a couple of reasons: I have always wanted to do special ed., I will probably have to spend less time planning, I don't have to rush Connor out of the house in the morning, and Dave can take care of Connor for most of the day when he is working afternoons. My cousin Brieanne is going to take care of Connor the rest of the time. It also works out really well for some other people too, because the teacher who took my maternity leave can still have a 75% position at our school and our other resource teacher can reduce her hours like she wanted.
In Jan. and Feb. I was really not looking forward to going back to work, but I am past that. I feel really good about the plan for next year. It means that we cannot save money as quickly to buy a house, but we are willing to make the sacrifice. It's really important to me to stay home with Connor as much as possible, because that is my job now too.

A bath at church

Connor was baptized yesterday. He did pretty well despite the fact that he has a cold and he was very hungry when the service started. He was really squirmy while we were standing at the front and Bob, our minister, was talking. He got interested, though, when Bob took the cover off the baptismal font, probably because the bowl inside was really shiny. He stopped squirming when Bob held him and didn't even cry when the water went on his head. Then he got handed back to Dave and got all cranky again. A snack and a nap solved that problem. Thanks to everyone who came. It was great to see you all. Grant and Suzie surprised us--we weren't expecting them to come all the way from Kingston! Also, thank you everyone who helped with lunch!

I love books! I love to take them out of the basket, smack them and suck on them. And I am starting to love reading them! Posted by Hello

Connor had his wish fulfilled today of actually putting Chumpy's tail in his mouth. She squawked, but didn't get too upset.  Posted by Hello

Connor pulled a Garrett the other day. Actually, this happens because he can only move backwards. Posted by Hello

A couple of weeks ago I made Ukranian Easter eggs with my Aunt Arlene. She has been making them for four years now, and is really good at it. It is quite a complicated process, involving lots of drawing with wax and many layers of dye. Mine turned out pretty well, but it was a pile of work! Posted by Hello
