Mom vs. Babyproofing 1

Posted by Kate

Connor is mobile. He doesn't crawl on his hands and knees yet, but he can pull himself along with his arms on his tummy. And of course, he is interested in all the things that are not suitable for playing with--the radio cord (which plugs in at the floor, unfortunately), the garbage can, the cat food, the plants... I have used a few babyproofing gadgets and taken most things out of the playing spaces, but mostly we just have to keep an eye on him. Because our apartment is small Connor plays in all the rooms so there isn't really anywhere to put things that we don't want him to get. Oh well. We're excited about this crawling business and so is he!

This is the classy new spice rack that I got at a garage sale last week. Its kind of a pain to get the spice out because the mouths of the bottles are small but it looks nice! Posted by Hello

This is a cactus that my mom gave me at Christmas. It flowered once in March (2 flowers), but last week it bloomed like crazy! It got 14 flowers. I was so impressed. Posted by Hello

Connor loves the cup from the Nyquil bottle. Sometimes he holds it and chews on it, and sometimes he just sucks on it while he plays with other stuff! Posted by Hello

He couldn't get the hang of the pacifier, but he can keep the cup in his mouth! Posted by Hello

Connor and Garrett at Grandma and Grandpa's. As you can see, Connor has gotten the hang of sitting up. Posted by Hello

WOOHOO! 10 months to Unemplyment!

Today I officially start my last contract with Honda. I signed my last contract yesterday. I'm now half done my contract in total. At the end I will be eligible for full time (if the want me). I think I have a good shot as I have only missed 2 days and that was because Connor was born. They understand that sort of thing. I've gone 10 months so far and have kept my nose clean. Hopefully I won't be out of work too long before I get the call. We'll see.

The true route to happiness is a consistent golf score

Well I did it yesterday. Yes Sir, I had the oddest golf game yesterday I've ever had in my life. Neil and I went and played Bloomington Downs in Aurora yesterday and it was an Adventure to be sure. We started off and I was shooting terribly. I was about to quit golf for the year after shooting a 51 on the front nine. Bleck! Caped it off with a big fat snowman on the 7th hole too. Only the second one of those I've shot this year. I said to Neil that I'm gonna rule this course on the back though and I certainly did. Started off with 4 bogeys and things were not looking well. Thats when I pulled on my ralley cap and took over. Last five holes consisted of 3 pars, one bogey and a birdie. Got the birdie on a 180 yard par 3 when I decided to pull out the 5 iron and hope for the best. Landed it on the fringe and I was looking at about a forty foot putt for bird. Good thing I left the pin in as I just ponied up and sunk it. NICE! With a final score of 40 on the back nine. 11 stroke difference from the front to the back. Bizarre.

Congratulations if anyone is still reading this at this point.

Pie in the Sky

Posted by Kate

This is a quote from "Cooking Made Easy" published by Monarch Pastry Flour in 1947.

Good pastry (the ambition of every girl and woman) is wholesome and digestible enough for the normal person to enjoy.

Although I am amused by the fact that good pastry should be the ambition of every girl and woman, I find it more interesting that pastry should be good enough for the normal person to enjoy. What about the abnormal people? Do they digest bad pastry well? Do they digest good pastry poorly? Does digesting bad pastry make them abnormal? Or must they eat bad pastry as a punishment for being abnormal in some other way?
Well, all I can say is my mom makes really good pastry and I do not make it at all.

What's New With Us?

(for those of you who like bullets) Posted by Kate

  • Dave is fighting off the Death Cold again. It reappeared Saturday afternoon, so he stayed home and rested all day yesterday, hoping to ward it off. We'll see how he's feeling this morning. He was really mad that it was coming back, as was I--because he was a total grump last time!
  • Connor has also had a cough for almost a month. It was not very serious, but it has gotten worse in the last few days, so I think I will call the doctor.
  • Connor and I did some good garage saleing (saling?) on the weekend. The youth drop in centre in town was having a sale, and a woman a few doors down from that was selling a lot of baby clothes. I told her I was looking for bigger undershirts, so she gave me what she had out, then she went and took more right out of her son's drawer! I also bought a really cool spice rack and some magnets for Connor, because his new favourite game is pulling magnets off the freezer.
  • Connor is wiggling around the floor a lot and has even been moving forward. He doesn;t go up on his hands and knees, he just pulls himself along on his tummy.

  • Dave signed up for a baseball team at Honda and played two games last week. He starts afternoons today, so he won't play for the next two weeks, but I hope to go watch when the start again.
  • Dave and Connor bought me some snazzy stencils and a cutting tool for Mothers' Day and I also bought some fun paper at Michael's so I'm making lots of cards these days. Well, when Connor is sleeping and there is no cleaning to do!
  • Congratulations to my cousin Brie who got a job at Groundswell, a new coffee place in town. AND Happy 2nd anniversary Grant and Suzie!

The Rock Rocks!

Just got back from golfing at The Rock up in Muskoka. I have to say that it was by far the best course that I have ever played at. The conditions were phenomenal and we had a great time. It all started when we pulled up and there were a few guys that took our clubs to the carts and got us all set up and invited us to warm up on their range. Even the range balls were set up in a pyramid. Cart was included and it was relatively cheap at $65.00. The Course was stunning to look at and was a definate treat to play. Golf Digest ranked it Best New course in Canada last year as well.

Plus! I beat the tar out of Chad and that always makes me happy.
